Since I started my own play unit “mètro”, I had always wanted to perform overseas.
Yet, I thought it was too challenging to implement. Then I came to realize, while acting in a small playhouse in Shinjuku, “Foreign visitors with interests in Japan and its performing arts are already right here from all over the world!” I would like those people to enjoy my performance beyond a language barrier. To make it possible, using this crowd-funding platform, I have started my project.
This is the first trial, and I will invite foreign viewers to my performance for free as a project participant. I sincerely hope you will support my project. Thank you very much for your kind consideration.

Today there are various kinds of plays in Japan, besides traditional “Kabuki and Noh”. Plays from Europe were imported during modern times, while new kinds of plays were increasingly spread out together with the revolution of “Kabuki”. In the 1960s, “Underground Plays” were established by mixing traditional and modern plays. “Butoh”, or a Japanese dance theater, is one of them.
The movement led to performance at small theaters, and new trials are ongoing.
“Nirinsoh” is a dramatization, not full but partly quoted, from a representative work “Kotoh no Oni” of Edogawa Rampo*, who was the pioneer of Japanese mystery fiction. This play is performed by
a few actors in a very confined space. It employs elements of both traditional and “Underground” plays. Our last show of “Nirinsoh” in April 2017 received good reviews. We are going to rerun
a performance of the play soon. We would like to show this tragic and harrowing tale to foreign audiences as well with audio guide provided. It is a simple device so that even non-Japanese speaking
audiences can enjoy our live performance. We are still on our way to improving and completing
the audio guide system. Thank you so much in advance for your interests in our show.
